Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is MDF skirting board and is it better than wood?
MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) skirting board is the most popular choice for modern homes and new builds. It's more stable than timber, less prone to warping or splitting, and takes paint exceptionally well — giving a smooth, professional finish. It's also more cost-effective than solid wood.
What is moisture resistant MDF and when should I use it?
Moisture resistant (MR) MDF contains a special resin that makes it more resistant to humidity. It's ideal for bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms, and any area prone to moisture. You can identify it by its green core.
What profiles do you offer?
We offer a wide range of profiles including Bullnose, Ogee, Torus, Chamfered, Ovolo, and more. Each profile gives a different aesthetic — from traditional to contemporary. Browse our full range to find the right style for your project.
What lengths do your skirting boards come in?
Our skirting boards are available in 3050mm (approximately 10ft) lengths — the standard length used across the UK trade and construction industry.
Do your skirting boards come primed or unprimed?
We offer both primed and unprimed options. Primed boards are ready for your topcoat of paint, saving time on site. Unprimed boards are ideal if you prefer to apply your own primer or are using a specialist finish.
How do I calculate how much skirting board I need?
Measure the perimeter of your room in metres, then subtract any doorways. Add 10% for wastage and cutting. Our team is happy to help if you're unsure — just get in touch.

How is the skirting board delivered?
We deliver UK-wide. Boards are carefully packaged to prevent damage in transit. Delivery times and costs are shown at checkout.
Can I collect from your showroom?
Yes — we have a showroom in Gosport where you can view profiles in person and collect your order. Please contact us to arrange.
How do I fix skirting board to the wall?
Skirting board can be fixed using adhesive (such as No More Nails), nails, or screws depending on your wall type. For solid walls, we recommend a combination of adhesive and masonry nails. Always ensure the wall is clean and dry before fixing.
Do I need to seal or paint MDF skirting board?
Yes — MDF should always be painted to protect it from moisture and wear. If using unprimed boards, apply a coat of MDF primer first, then two topcoats of your chosen paint.
