Hallways
Hallways take more punishment than any other room — scuffs from shoes, furniture, and foot traffic are inevitable. Here’s what to look for:
- Profile: Square Edge or Chamfer Round — clean lines that are easy to wipe down and don’t collect dust in grooves
- Height: 120mm–144mm — tall enough to make a statement in a narrow space and protect the wall effectively
- Finish: Primed — hallways get repainted regularly, so a primed board saves time

Living Rooms
The living room is where style matters most. You have more freedom here to choose a profile with character.
- Profile: Torus, Ogee, or Ovolo for traditional homes; Square Edge or V Groove for contemporary spaces
- Height: 144mm–166mm — taller skirting adds grandeur and works well with high ceilings
- Finish: Primed — most living rooms are painted in specific shades, so primed boards give you a perfect base
- Tip: Match your skirting profile to your architraves for a fully coordinated look throughout the ground floor
Bedrooms
Bedrooms are lower-traffic spaces, so you have more flexibility on profile and height.
- Profile: Pencil Round, Lambs Tongue, or Bullnose — softer profiles suit the relaxed feel of a bedroom
- Height: 95mm–120mm — bedrooms typically have lower ceilings and furniture close to the walls, so a moderate height works well
- Finish: Primed or unprimed — if you’re painting the room yourself, unprimed gives you full control
- Tip: In children’s bedrooms, go for a simple Square Edge or Pencil Round — easy to clean and repaint as tastes change
Kitchens & Bathrooms
These are the rooms where material choice matters most.
- Profile: Square Edge or Pencil Round — minimal grooves mean less moisture trapping
- Height: 95mm–120mm — practical and proportionate in typically smaller rooms
- Finish: Primed — essential in wet areas; seal all edges thoroughly before painting
